A short story to share:
AA & I were having a “mom/daughter” morning last Saturday. We both LOVE Starbucks but we try not to indulge very often. Ok. I do. But whatever.
We ordered our coffee drinks and our yummy 22,000 calorie scones and proceeded to drive to the window. When I got there the lady said that the lady in front of us had paid our ticket. What? Yep. She just said “keep it goin”. SO. I paid for the lady behind me. AA was shocked. She kept asking if I had known the lady that paid for our coffees. She just could not grasp this. I felt sad that my daughter did not understand “random acts of kindness”. We show kindness all the time but maybe not enough to just ordinary people. We donate to charity. We are kind to friends and family members in need. But how often do we just reach out and do something for someone for no particular reason.
This got me to thinking about the movie “Pay it Forward”. I was touched by this ladies gesture SO I decided to Pay. It. Forward.
Later that day AA and I were in the grocery store. A young lady with two kids was in front of us in line. She was struggling with her kids/groceries/purse etc. She seemed frazzled. When she got the the cashier to pay, I simply said “I would like to pay for your groceries today”. She didn’t have very much. She too, seemed confused with the concept. I explained that someone was kind to me this morning and I wanted to keep the kindness going. I asked her to pass it on.
SO. Today. Do something kind for someone for NO. Reason. Whatsoever and tell me how it makes you feel.
I love this P…I am a firm believer in Paying it Forward
